Our Mission

The Alan Dawley Center for the Study of Social Justice (ADCSSJ) aims to provide a focal point for students, scholars, community leaders, and public intellectuals involved in social justice issues in the state of New Jersey and beyond. The ADCSSJ will seek to be the voice and nerve center of TCNJ’s core beliefs and public mission that “regards education in the service of human welfare as its chief end.”

The Alan Dawley Center for the Study of Social Justice strives to:

Serve as a gathering place for scholars, students, staff and other communities served by TCNJ to discuss, debate, research, and teach questions of social justice across disciplines and professions.
Assist the College in fulfilling its social responsibilities by engaging faculty, students and staff in community-engaged learning, community activism, and community outreach.
Develop programs and initiatives that encourage and permit collaboration and dialogue between administration, staff, students, and faculty aimed at fully and effectively advancing social awareness and promoting the common good.
